An Evening of Piedmont Blues
Durham, NC-based Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter and master acoustic guitarist whose style blends improvised Piedmont blues with bluegrass, swing, and ragtime. Originally from Massachusetts, Shain honed his craft studying history at Duke University and playing alongside North Carolina blues legends like Big Boy Henry. After a decade touring with the 90s folk-rock band Flyin’ Mice, he launched a highly successful solo career, eventually winning the 2019 International Blues Challenge. Shain has released over a dozen albums—including 2024’s Restless Soul Syndrome—authored two instructional music books, produced chart-topping blues records, and continues to tour internationally, sharing stages with roots legends like John Hiatt and Keb’ Mo’.
