A Photographic Walk through Callaway Mills History

Over one hundred years ago, LaGrange was a “mill town” and over half the population worked in one of the Callaway mills. It all began with Unity Cotton Mill, established in 1900, and just kept growing. Not only did the mills provide jobs, they also offered recreational opportunities, healthcare, and education for generations of citizens in LaGrange and the surrounding areas. Last April, Executive Director Carleton Wood led a 3-mile walking tour through the historic mill district beginning at the Callaway Memorial Tower. For this year’s Spring Lecture, he will retrace his steps digitally as he details through photographs how the lasting legacy of Fuller Callaway Sr. and Callaway Mills remains an integral part of the fabric of the community.

This photographic tour will be held in the Visitor Center on Thursday, February 8, and is free for members, $15 per person for non-members. A reception will begin at 6:30pm and the lecture will begin at 7pm. Reservations are appreciated.
