Visit LaGrange was honored with the TravelBlazer Award by the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (GACVB) at the Annual Winter Conference held February 3 – 5 in the Atlanta area. The TravelBlazer Award was created by GACVB to recognize destination development programs that showcase the collaboration of community efforts.
Visit LaGrange was selected for the Mulberry Street Cemetery restoration project, which is expected to open to the public in late Spring 2025. The major initiative is revitalizing, preserving and highlighting the historical significance of the historic cemetery that is home to more than 300 Confederate veterans and more than 1,000 unmarked graves of people believed to be African American. It is also the burial site of renowned bridge builder, legislator and architect Horace King and a King covered bridge.
“We are honored to receive this award from the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus,” said Kathy Tilley, president/CEO of Visit LaGrange. “This project honors the lives of those laid to rest at the Mulberry Street Cemetery and incorporates educational elements, showcases regional and local history, and creates a space for shared community engagement.”
Launched in 2020, the TravelBlazer Awards were created to recognize destination development programs and projects that involved multi-partner collaboration within the community and destination – completed new tourism assets that exemplify creative product development.
