UNCOVER LAGRANGE’S HIDDEN GEMS: UNEXPECTED ADVENTURES AWAIT IN 2025

Located an hour south of Atlanta, LaGrange, Georgia, is a treasure trove of hidden gems perfect for families, history enthusiasts and those seeking off-the-beaten-path adventures in 2025. From secret culinary hotspots and tucked-away attractions to outdoor escapes and vibrant arts, LaGrange invites visitors to uncover its best-kept secrets.

Unexpected Historic Treasures

History lovers can venture beyond the usual paths to uncover gems like the Callaway Memorial Tower, which is a stunning monument to Fuller E. Callaway, a prominent industrialist and philanthropist known for his contributions to the development of LaGrange. Built in 1929 and inspired by the Campanile of St. Mark’s Square in Venice, Italy, this architectural masterpiece is nestled near the historic Hillside neighborhood, just a short journey outside of Downtown LaGrange. The tower is a great destination for picnicking, with a spacious green where children can play, making it a perfect place for families to enjoy the outdoors while soaking in the history and beauty of the site.

Nearby, the stunning Hills & Dales Estate, once home to the Callaway Family, features impeccably preserved Italianate architecture and breathtaking gardens filled with vibrant blooms and intricate landscapes. Beyond its historical charm, Hills & Dales hosts unique events like storytelling sessions, the annual Picnic in the Garden on Mother’s Day Weekend and hands-on workshops such as creating fairy gardens and learning the art of bog gardening.

Slated to debut in Summer 2025, the highly anticipated revitalization of Mulberry Street Cemetery represents a landmark project for LaGrange, preserving one of the city’s most significant historic sites and uncovering a new piece of LaGrange’s history. This transformative effort will restore gravestones, identify previously unmarked graves, enhance pathways and thoughtfully honor the legacy of the individuals who played pivotal roles in shaping the community.

Culinary Delights in Hidden Corners

LaGrange’s dining scene is a playground for foodies eager to uncover secret spots. Tutto Pepe, a newer Italian eatery tucked above Beacon Brewing in the Hillside neighborhood, offers an intimate dining experience and its own Italian pilsner, brewed exclusively by Beacon for the restaurant. For something truly unexpected, 505 Eats serves up fusion dishes and rotating specials from its unique location tucked inside a gas station just outside of downtown, courtesy of owner Joyce Sato.

Meanwhile, the Midnyt Burger food truck at Wild Leap Brew Co. is a must-visit for indulgences to accompany the brewery’s award-winning beers, offering mouthwatering burgers and fries that have quickly become a local legend. Nutwood Winery invites visitors to enjoy its Wine Tasting Room and Vineyard Cafe, hidden among hand-planted vineyards and 200-year-old pecan trees. This unique winery hosts events like Yoga in the Vines, inviting yogis of all levels to join a guided class in the lush surroundings. Recently, Nutwood has expanded its charm to downtown LaGrange with the opening of a new restaurant and wine bar with an expanded menu, spacious seating and a cozy fireplace.

Arts and Culture

The arts in LaGrange offer their own set of surprises. The intimate Black Box Theater at the Lafayette Society for Performing Arts and the theater program at LaGrange College present performances that are as unexpected as they are engaging, with the Black Box Theater’s cozy setting allowing audiences to feel immersed in every story told on stage. Music lovers will also discover the soulful magic of Pure Life House of Music, a hidden gem showcasing budding local artists and live performances that captivate audiences. Visitors shouldn’t miss Pure Life’s guitar wall, filled with signed and donated guitars from performers that have visited over the years.

Secret Spots for Outdoor Enthusiasts

For those who love the outdoors, LaGrange’s best-kept secrets include two newly completed sections of The Thread, a scenic trail network perfect for walking and biking. This growing scenic trail network will eventually stretch more than 29 miles throughout the city, connecting its unique neighborhoods and historic districts. Piney Woods Farm adds a unique twist to outdoor fun with offerings like goat yoga and workshops that include soapmaking, creating infused oils, fiber arts and more.
