Besides sipping on some great wine, what else can you do at Nutwood Winery? We’ve compiled a list of things to do to turn your visit into the perfect day trip any time of year!
1: Learn Nutwood’s History
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, elegant Nutwood was built in 1833 by architect Collin Rodgers. He was known for his Federal and more formal Greek Revival style with its stately, four-column porticos that helped to define southern architecture. Rodgers also left his signature behind – a trademark medallion bird you can find on the Ionic column above the entrance.
2: Sample Farm Goodies
Nutwood is proud to be a “Georgia Grown” member and designated agritourism destination. In addition to grapes, they also grow and sell blueberries, blackberries, figs, heirloom tomatoes and, of course, pecans.
3: Eat Well
Believe it or not, you could go to Nutwood Winery just for the food. There’s a full menu of delicious, Southern-inspired favorites plus homemade bread, Amish cheeses and a variety of desserts. The specialty ice cream bar is a hit with all ages.
4: Get Active
Bring your friends and enjoy fun outdoor games like giant lawn chess, cornhole, 10-hole disc golf and yoga in the vines.
5: Enjoy Live Music
Catch some live music from up-and-coming local talent every Friday and Saturday night. It will really put you in the weekend mood to kick back in the good company of music lovers like you.
6: Get an Instagram Worthy Shot
Up your selfie game with the #LoveTruck. Decorations change throughout the year so be sure to come back often. You can strike a new pose every season, then get creative and montage them all together.
7: Celebrate Creative Artisans
If you’re looking for that special, one-of-a-kind gift, you’re sure to find it here. There are also one-of-a-kind events throughout the year if you want to give the gift of a unique Nutwood experience, such as Celebrity Chef Kitchen Takeover or a yoga session.
8: Plan Your Next Party
Nutwood is the perfect event space for your next gathering with plenty of spots to hang out indoors and outdoors, plus plenty of parking too. There’s a 6,000-square-foot tasting room so you can really spread out. Or, keep it casual and head outside. There’s a porch and a gazebo under the lights for cover. Plus, you’ll find heaters for cooler days and fans to guide the sweet Southern breezes on warmer days. You can even bring your dog and enjoy the sprawling grounds together.
9: Experience Five-Star Southern Hospitality
Visitors give Nutwood Winery five-star reviews online for their warm and welcoming staff. The yummy food in the vineyard café gets raves too. Top mentions go to the wine slushies (of course), “the best” chicken salad sandwiches, sliders, and fruit and cheese plates that go perfectly with the tasting tree.
And of course… Sip on The Wine
OK, so we can’t not mention the wine! Nutwood currently offers eleven wines that range from merlot to chardonnay and everything in between. Seasonal wines are also available throughout the year, giving you yet one more great reason to keep coming back. Plantation Honey is the house favorite for its light body and natural sweetness. Many of the wines combine classic flavors with rich fruit aromas for an elegant complexity. There’s something about the warm Georgia climate that brightens and balances all of the notes and provides a smooth finish.
Nutwood Winery also offers a wine club so you can take the experience home with you. There are different options so you can receive quarterly shipments of Nutwood wines plus you receive discounts and exclusive access to members-only events such as private tours, complimentary tastings and invitations to special events at the winery.
Come out and enjoy. Maybe you’ll discover even more reasons of your own.
