Men at Work is an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1978, best known for their catchy blend of new wave, pop rock, and reggae-influenced sounds.
The band achieved international success in the early 1980s with their debut album, Business as Usual (1981), which became a global hit. The album included the chart-topping singles “Down Under”—an unofficial Australian anthem—and “Who Can It Be Now?” Both songs reached No. 1 in the United States, helping the band become one of the first Australian acts to achieve major commercial success in the American market.
Their second album, Cargo (1983), continued their popularity with hits like “Overkill” and “It’s a Mistake.” Known for Colin Hay’s distinctive voice and Greg Ham’s prominent flute riffs, Men at Work stood out in the early MTV era.
The band’s early success earned them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1983. Today, Men at Work are remembered as one of Australia’s most successful musical exports, with enduring hits that remain staples of 1980s pop and rock playlists.
